Ingredients

  • 1 ½ Cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ Teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 ½ Cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • Granulated Sugar (as needed)

Directions

  1. Mix powdered sugar, margarine, egg, vanilla and almond extract.
  2. Stir in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar.
  3. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours.
  4. Heat oven to 350F.
  5. Divide dough into halves.
  6. Roll each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured, cloth covered board.
  7. Cut into desired shapes with 2 – 2 1/2″ cookie cutter; sprinkle with granulated sugar.
  8. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake until edges are light brown, 7 to 8 minutes.
