Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Sliced Strawberries
  • ½ tsp. Lemon Juice
  • ½ tsp. Lemon Zest
  • 4 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 4 – 1″ Thick Slices of French bread
  • 1 Cup Low Fat Milk
  • 2 tbs. Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ tsp. Baking Powder
  • 4 Egg Whites
  • 2 Eggs
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Strawberry Syrup

Directions

  1. Mix together strawberries, lemon juice, zest and 2 Tbsp of sugar; Set aside.
  2. Cut bread slices in half and cut a slit in each slice to form a pocket.
  3. Stuff with strawberries and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Place slices in 13″x9″ greased or buttered baking dish.
  5. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, vanilla, baking powder and eggs.
  6. Mix well and pour over stuffed bread; turning over until fully coated.
  7. Chill for 30-60 minutes, turning bread pieces occasionally. 
  8. Preheat oven to 400F
  9. Grease another 13″x9″ inch baking pan.
  10. Move bread pieces to second pan and bake for 3-6 minutes on each side.
  11. Serve warm with syrup and additional strawberries.
